Creative Design Director, Alastair Callender, founded his multi-award winning studio Callender Designs in 2008.
Having completed a Boat Design degree, from Coventry University, UK, achieving First Class Honours with Professional Enhancement and the Boat Designer of the Year award, Alastair has since won various international awards.
Honours Alastair has received include: The International Superyacht Society's Excellence in Innovation Award 2010; Finalist in the World Superyacht Awards 2010; & Winner of the prestigious Conde Nast Traveller Innovation & Design Awards 2010.
Alastair grew up a stone’s throw away from his sailing club in Chichester Harbour, UK, which in turn, has nurtured an absolute passion for all things nautical for as long as he can remember.
At the age of 16, Alastair was fortunate to have a life-changing careers talk from one of the world’s most renowned Superyacht designers, Andrew Winch. This fuelled Alastair with a thirst to pursue a personal ambition: to work within this sector of the maritime industry.
Alastair's nautical career includes winning the Sir Peter Blake Award for achievement in sailing in 2004.
Alastair has worked within 5 design studios to date, including Princess Yachts International plc, with several of his designs incorporated into the production of the Princess Yachts range of motorboats. He has also worked in the design studio at Northshore Yachts Limited, giving him a well rounded first-hand experience of the sailing and motor yacht design industries.
Alastair has developed an exciting, innovative design for the world’s most environmentally friendly superyacht. This radical rigid-wing superyacht concept called "Soliloquy" has been showcased globally at the most prestigious events in the yachting calendar during the last two years, and is currently looking for a client or conglomerate of investors to commission her.
Callender chose to use a cutting-edge Australian company, called Solar Sailor Holdings Ltd, as the technology suppliers.
This superyacht design was initially showcased during Alastair’s speech at "The 4th Annual Future of Superyachts"
conference in Mallorca, in June 2009, entitled: "The Design of Super-Green Superyachts". This work has subsequently
won numerous international design and innovation accolades and awards.
